Graduation Requirements 

 

All students shall complete the core curriculum plus a preparation curriculum (university/college bound, or career/technical prep). The student, parent, and counselor will develop the plan as the student enters the ninth grade. Students are required to achieve, by the time they graduate, at least Algebra I, or the equivalent in an integrated curriculum incorporating National Council of Teachers of Mathematics standards. The State Department of Education shall determine the equivalency. Students who entered the ninth grade in 2006, 2007, or 2008, must complete Geometry or Algebra II or a state equivalent in addition to Algebra I. Students who entered the ninth grade in 2009, are required to complete four units in math: Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry and an additional math beyond Algebra I, or the state equivalent. The social studies curriculum shall include United States History, World History or World Geography, Economics or Marketing I, and US Government or American Business Legal Systems. Students who entered the ninth grade in 2006, 2007, or 2008, must successfully pass state Gateway examinations in Algebra I, Biology I, and 10th Grade English before receiving a regular high school diploma.

 

 

FOR STUDENTS THAT ENTERED THE 9TH GRADE IN 2006, 2007, AND 2008

 

 

UNIVERSITY PATH

Students who choose the university preparatory curriculum

will complete the core curriculum and courses required for

entrance into Tennessee's public colleges and universities,

including 2 units of the same foreign language and 1 unit of

fi ne arts. University students must complete Algebra II and

Geometry.

Students electing a technical preparation curriculum will

complete the core curriculum and a four-unit program of

study focusing on a particular technical area. Students will

have the opportunity to move directly into the postsecondary

component of a tech-prep program. Students must complete

Algebra I.

all students will begin a college preparatory course of study.

Students will still have the opportunity to explore career and

technical areas of interest.
